Further to earlier posts and here and here the foundation centre facebook page is going from strength to strength. There’s starting to be fairly regular postings on the wall, in the main they are casual queries from prospective students.
An issue at the moment though is that these queries are being answered by me (either directly or indirectly), rather than by other students, even though in many cases this would be straightforward and could possibly be more informative. One question asked how difficult a particular programme was, and this might have led to an interesting discussion from current and past students – but didn’t 😦
The number of active users is relatively high, as you can see from the graph below (the dip at the start is from the christmas break). So people are coming to the site, just not participating. Perhaps they are all lurkers? I’m not really sure how FB defines active users in this context.
I’m not really sure how to try and get our FB page to the next stage of community development. I can keep on plugging away at it, building up the raw number of fans in the hoping of achieving a critical mass, or there might be some other way to increase engagement from the current fans.
One purpose of these blog postings is for me to record thoughts and examples about the FB community development, but i’d also be interested to hear if anyone else has had (or even overcome!) these sorts of obstacles, or if anyone has any useful comments or links. All help appreciated.
